Your smartwatch has the ability to receive updates, just like your phone, with new releases of Android or HarmonyOS. Updating your watch is simple and can give you access to new features. By updating your watch, you will receive new security patches, performance updates, features, and bug fixes.

Depending on the type of HUAWEI Watch you have, you will either be running Android Wear or HarmonyOS. Follow the instructions below for your specific system.

Android Wear Watches:

Watch updates are often installed overnight while your watch is charging. To make sure your device gets its updates, keep your watch powered on and connected to Wi-Fi.

Sometimes, you need to update your watch through the Play Store.

Download system updates

System updates are automatic. But if a Wear OS by Google update doesn’t install on its own, you may need to download it yourself.

Download system updates directly

To see if there’s an update ready:

  1. If you can’t see your screen, wake up the watch.
  2. To open your list of apps, press the Power button.
  3. Tap Settings and then System and then About.
  4. Scroll down and tap System updates.

If an update is available, your watch will download it. If not, you’ll see that your watch is up-to-date.

Manage your watch’s automatic updates

  1.  Make sure your watch is connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. On your watch, open the Play Store.
  3. From the top of your screen, swipe down and tap Settings.
  4. Turn Auto-update apps on or off.

To keep your apps up-to-date, stay signed in to your Google account and keep your watch on when you charge it.

Download Wear OS updates

To get the latest Wear OS update, download it from the Play Store app on your watch.

To see if there’s an update ready:

  1. If you can’t see your screen, wake up the watch.
  2. To open your list of apps, press the Power button.
  3. Tap the Play Store app.
    • If necessary, follow the instructions to connect to Wi-Fi and add a Google Account.
  4. From the top of your screen, swipe down and tap My Apps.
  5. If you see “Updates available,” download the one you want, or tap Update all.

If you don’t see “Updates available,” then your apps are all up-to-date.

HarmonOS Watches:

Method 1:

Connect the watch to your phone using the Huawei Health app, open the app, touch Devices, touch the device name, choose Firmware update, then follow the onscreen instructions to update your watch if there are any new updates.

Method 2:

  • For Android users: Open the Huawei Health app, touch Devices, touch the device name, then enable Auto-download update packages over Wi-Fi. If there are any new updates, the watch will display update reminders. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your watch.

  • For iOS users: Open the Huawei Health app, touch the profile picture in the upper-left corner on the home screen, touch Settings, then enable Auto-download update packages over Wi-Fi. If there are any new updates, the watch will display update reminders. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your watch.

Now you should know how to update your HUAWEI Watch. It is likely that your watch is already up to date since these updates normally happen automatically.
