P50 Pro render.

Even though Huawei has yet to announce the P50, rumors surrounding the smartphone have been building up over the last few months.

The Huawei P50 is set to launch in March 2021 and will no doubt feature a range of great features. But if you’re a diehard Huawei fan, you might be wondering what to expect from the P50.

In this article, we tell you everything we know about the P50 so far in terms of its release date, specifications, and other rumors about the phone. Read on to find out more about the handset.

Three versions

The P50 range.

Just like the P40, Huawei is likely to offer several versions of the P50. According to mockups from Twitter user Guildingdroid, Huawei is preparing to launch three P50 models. There’ll be a standard model, a Pro model, and a Pro+ model of the P50.

If Guildingdroid’s renders are to be believed, the P50 will have a slightly curved or flat display; the P50 Pro will have a waterfall-style display; and the P50 Pro Plus will have a quad curved display.

The size of the display will also vary on each handset. It’s rumored that the standard P50 will have a 6.1-inch or 6.2-inch AMOLED screen; the P50 Pro will have a 6.6-inch AMOLED screen; and the P50 Pro+ will have a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen.

Looking at these renders, you can also see that each P50 handset sports a center-aligned, punch-hole selfie camera. What’s more, the bezels surrounding the displays are very minimal.

Two OS choices

HarmonyOS was announced in 2019.

In the past, Huawei’s smartphones have traditionally run with Android out of the box. But according to rumors from well-known phone tipster Yash Raj Chaudhary, that’s set to change as the international model of the P50 will come in two operating system choices: Android or Huawei’s very own Harmony OS. But in China, it’s believed that just the Harmony OS version will be available.

The same tipster, Yash Raj Chaudhary, has also provided a glimpse into the specifications of Huawei’s P50 Pro. He suggests it’ll sport a Kirin 9000 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, an OLED display, and a camera setup comprising five sensors.

More recently, a blogger (who says they’re a “company internal tester”) leaked a treasure trove of P50 specifications on Weibo. They claim that the standard P50 will sport a 90Hz refresh rate, while the premium models will have a refresh rate of 120Hz.

The Weibo blogger also says the phones will be powered by Kirin 9000 and 9000e processors. More on the camera front, the P50 is rumored to have Leica rear camera lenses and a 200x binocular zoom.

Additionally, the standard P50 will get 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. But the “internal tester” claims that Huawei is also thinking about including 135W fast charging on these devices.

As per the Gizchina report, Huawei may include four stereo sound speakers and an improved vibration motor on the new P50 smartphones. So, you can expect an impressive sound quality.

Meanwhile, Huawei Central suggests that the P50 will have a 4200mAh battery, while the Pro and Pro+ versions could have slightly larger 4500mAh batteries. But we’d like to see a 5000mAh battery on the most expensive model.

When will the Huawei P50 be released?

In the past, Huawei unveiled the P20, P30, and P40 in late March. And we don’t expect Huawei to break from tradition when it comes to the release of the P50. So, we can confidently say that the P50 series will launch in March 2021 and start shipping in April 2021.

Based on the launch pricing of the P40 range, the P50 will likely cost from £699 to £1,299. But nothing is set in stone, and things could easily change over the next few months. Either way, expect to hear more about the P50 soon.
